Educating Tomorrow's Leaders Today
Reading Counts is a computer based reading program that helps encourage students to read. Students read a book, take a quiz on that title, and are able to earn points for their efforts. Points are determined by the difficulty of the book and how well they do on the quiz. Teachers are able to monitor students' comprehension and reading progress.
We currently use the Reading Counts program at Monfort Heights Elementary School, Taylor Elementary School, and Weigel Elementary School. Below are lists of titles for which students are able to take a quiz. These lists are separated by the titles' Lexile levels, or the difficulty of the material. The kindergarten list contains books with Lexiles of 0-150, the 1st grade list contains books with Lexiles of 160-350, the 2nd grade list contains books with Lexiles of 360-500, the 3rd grade list contains books with Lexiles of 510-650, the 4th grade list contains books with Lexiles of 660-800, the 5th grade list contains books with Lexiles of 810-950, and the list for grades 6 and up contains Lexiles of 960 and higher. Please click on the link that matches your child's Lexile reading ability. Contact your child's teacher if you are in need of that information.
